This work was inspired by a Chinese documentary UNDER THE DOME which was about the deep investigation of the Chinese haze situation in 2015 and caused a big controversy in that time. I discovered the reason why it’s so sensational was that it not only triggered the enthusiasm of people to explore the truth of haze, but also arised the contradictory conflict when people facing the practical problem. This series mainly shows the impact of the haze towards human life and the attitude of people dealing with the caused by haze.

This series was inspired with the varied shapes of the clouds, which have different color and morphology in one day because of its thickness and light refraction. Clouds are just like the lifetime of human, from primary born in the early morning, to the aging in the thick darkness. Different symbols were chosen according to the four stages in human’s lifetime, with fabrics simulating the color and shapes of clouds, so as to represent the characteristics of each period in one’s life. Finally, four types of necklaces were made based on these ideas.

This work came from a kind of natural phenomena around us, burl, which basically is the tumor of tree. Because of its strange shapes, it is seen as the precious ornaments, and derived a variety of purposes. However, humans will have the similar phenomenon, tumor, which is a kind of disease. People want to remove it and discard it. They are all neoplasm but have different fate. Does the consumption opinion towards morbidness of the society depend on people’s situation? I used the fabric to give people an experience carrying convex objects to reflect on this question.
